I love that this week Fast Company published a reading list. One book I have found to be of professional inspiration is Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking. It is about how we are prewired to “think without thinking.” We see – or think we see – something, are triggered subconsciously by what we thought we saw, and then automatically react or draw conclusions. Choices are made in the blink of an eye when they aren’t as simple as they seem.
For me, that translates into how in business we should not be too quick to react, but make sure we support our actions with logic and data. In a world where we tend to feel rewarded by immediate gratification and responses, we need to remember that good decision making is a fine balance between too much and too little information. We are more likely to be successful when we are attuned to synthesizing what matters most and turning it into win-win results.
I hope the good reads of this week’s “What’s New in HR” will inspire you to tackle a new project, think differently, or whatever it may be that you are needing. Enjoy!
